Kia ora this is and anzac post of my great grandfather. his name is Samuel Noble M. 28th Maori battalion. his rank was private. his serial number is 62752
What a fantastic photo Arabella, I love looking at old photos of whānau. I wonder if you do some research on him and what sort of job he did. I notice his name is Samuel, is your brother named after him? Thank you for sharing.
Kia ora Whaea Meagan, Wheaea Heather so my great grandfather used to work on a sawnmill on the west coast. he lived up north for most of his childhood. he was full maori blooded ngapuhi. he was born in 1908 well thats what we found. he was of 24 children. because there was so many children he was farmed out to the Marsh family. his orignal last name was pereni. he didnet have my grandfather kevin until he was in his 50's. his nickname was ngawhika wich means good with money. ngawhika is also my brothers middle name and he was also called samuel after him.
What great research Arabella. It was lovely to hear you share your story on ANZAC morning. He sounds like a really amazing man and I imagine his other job working in a saw mill would have been hard work. Imagine being one of 24 children wow.....it would be like having a whole class of tamariki in your house all the time.
Wow Arabella so special you have this photograph - Can you tell us a bit of a story about him? Would love to know :)
